Renata Youngblood
Born in Los Angeles, California and now residing in San Diego, Renata Youngblood's love for music began with a strict training in concert piano. However; she naturally gravitated toward composing. Her first composition at the age of seven took first in city and second in state in the Reflections Talent Contest. Youngblood was introduced to the guitar after a brief flirtation with jazz piano and improvisation. She quickly taught herself to play acoustic guitar with her knowledge of musical theory and ear training. During this time Renata was consistently writing more songs and, in doing so, developing a style of performance that is original, rhythmic and rich in melody. Her percussive finger picking style with the acoustic guitar directly mirrors her skill of piano playing. Her sound, both in instrument and voice, reflects strength paired with vulnerability. As delicate and feminine as she is strong and powerful. These intriguing contradictions in combination with her movements on stage and deeply thought-provoking lyrics have given Renata a reputation as a performer with dynamic stage presence and soul. Mike Halloran of San Diego's FM 94.9 radio station has said this of Renata, "She sounds as though she has a soul that is 6,000 years old." Renata's voice can be heard in the Food Network commercial, 'Come taste life.' Proving itself to be a network favorite this catchy jingle, produced by Daniel Barnath, has received consistent and frequent airtime for over a year. Renata scored big when she met up with David J of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets in 2004. David J, the producer of Renata's debut album 'The Side Effects of Owning Skin' that was released June 1, 2006, has been an integral part of catapulting Renata's career from songwriter to international star. Renata's first release with J, an EP titled 'Weightless,' was nominated for a 2005 LA Music Award in the Adult Alternative category. In spring of 2005 Renata was invited on board the west coast leg of Peter Murphy's 'Unshattered' tour. Murphy, after hearing Renata's EP, had been so impressed that he went to great lengths to add her, even as an (as-of-yet) unsigned artist, to the bill of his major tour. Renata was recently nominated for Female Singer-Songwriter of the Year 2006 by the LA Music Awards. Bibliography

PressOf Renata Youngblood performing at Lestat's: "This is a CD-release party for a young lass with a soulful croon, whose career's being giddied-up by David J, San Diego's statesman of goth. Her debut impressed Peter Murphy. It'll probably impress you." San Diego City Bea "Playing first was a local and very talented singer songwriter named Renata Youngblood. As I was watching her perform I was very impressed with her stage presence as well as her ability to play guitar. She reminded me of a young Joni Mitchell and yes, I do know that this is probably a very unfair comparison but if you ever get a chance to see her in concert you will understand. She has the long blond hair and the eyes and also is very talented both lyrically as well as guitar wise. Her music just enthralled the audience the entire time. Youngblood played for about an hour but I wish she had played some more because the music had peaked my interest and she was just so talented." The Summit "Always helps when you've got San Diego's famous gothman David J (ex-Bauhaus, Love and Rockets) in your corner. J has been helping guide the development of singer-songwriter Renata Youngblood for over a year now. At the recent Coachella Music Festival in Indio, J played a copy of Youngblood's upcoming EP for his old friend and bandmate, Peter Murphy. As J recalled, "So taken with it was he, that he immediately invited her to be his special guest on the Southern Californian leg of his U.S. tour."Youngblood won't play at Murphy's San Diego concert (May 26 at the House of Blues) because she'll be bust at The Hotel Cafe in L.A" San Diego City Beat
